Am I ready for therapy?

That’s an important question, but the truth is, there’s no perfect way to be “ready” for therapy. You don’t need to have all the answers, a clear goal, or even know exactly what’s wrong. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, curious about yourself, or simply wondering if life could feel a bit better, that’s enough. Therapy is a space where you can explore things at your own pace, with support—not pressure. During the assessment and throughout the therapy process, we’ll work together to better understand what’s important to you. This might be your hopes, your goals, and what you might want life to feel like moving forward.

Garden Room Therapy is passionate about offering low cost and affordable counselling and psychotherapy. Our standard rates are £45, but we offer a limited number of sessions at £25 and £35 for people who are low income looking for low cost therapy.

You can get in touch via email at [email protected] or use the contact form on our website. We’ll arrange a time to chat and set up an initial assessment.

This is different for everyone. Some people come for a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term work. We’ll check in regularly about how things are going and what feels right for you.

Therapy looks different for different clients, but generally it is a space for you to explore what is going on for you and search for the origins of some of your current struggles.

In your first session, you’ll meet with your therapist and talk about what’s brought you to therapy, what your life looks like currently, and explore your hopes and needs. You can ask any questions, and there’s no pressure to share more than you feel ready to.

As you and your therapist’s relationship becomes stronger, they may begin to challenge you or explore in more depth, which can be emotional. This will happen only at your pace – You are the expert in the therapy room, and your therapist is there to support you.

With eating disorder therapy, there may be a need for psychoeducation and food planning early on as well!

We hope you will always feel our therapy service is helpful and appropriate for you, and if you ever feel unhappy with any part of your therapy experience, we really encourage you to bring it up with your therapist. You’re always welcome to raise concerns directly, and we’ll do our best to listen and address them together with care and openness. If you don’t feel comfortable speaking directly, or if you feel your concern hasn’t been resolved, you can also raise a complaint with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), our professional body. As BACP members, we adhere to their Ethical Framework and complaints procedure, which is there to protect your rights and ensure professional standards are upheld. You can learn more at www.bacp.co.uk.

Most people attend therapy weekly, but this can vary depending on your needs and availability. We’ll discuss what works best for you together.
